Jacobs, Split Rock Conservation Park, Presented with Environmental Quality Award
April 17, 2009, Cincinnati, OH - Mark Jacobs, who graduated from NKU in 1984 with a degree in anthropology, was honored in April 2009 by the Kentucky’s Environmental Quality Commission for his development of Wildlife Conservation Kentucky, Inc. and the management of Split Rock Conservation Park. On May 28, 2009, Mark received an award from the Boone County Preservation Review Board, which recognizes local organizations and individuals committed to the preservation of Boone County’s history.
Mark also co-sponsors an annual Open House with the Boone County Preservation Review Board for Preservation Month in May. The 2009 Split Rock Conservation Park Fall Fundraiser will be Saturday, October 3, 2009.
Split Rock Conservation Park celebrated its fifth anniversary last year in 2008 and is located is Petersburg in Western Boone County.
This amazing and unique outdoor classroom offers hands-on programs for children of all ages and adults to analyze nature while learning about our area’s past. It is an opportunity to explore nature by finding a Jefferson Salamander, exploring aquatic life in a pond, or catching a Red Admiral butterfly. These experiences help demonstrate the importance of respecting nature and how to preserve it for the future. All educational programs are also offered to areas school and the community through outreach programs.
With over 3 miles of trails, a newly restored 4 acre wetland, and the spectacular “Split Rock”- there is a lot to experience at Split Rock Conservation Park.
